What Does ‘BUBS’ Even Stand For?
The year is 1992 and somewhere in snowy Sweden a family takes a huge risk and starts manufacturing their own sweets… Those crazy candy visionaries?.. Bernt, Ulrik, Birgitta, and Stefan Lindström. Now as for the name, 10 house points if you can guess where ‘BUBS’ came from….
The initials of the creators…duh! It’s always easy when you spell it out…(don’t worry, we didn’t get it either).
What Do BUBS Look Like?
When it comes to BUBS, our Swedish friends like to keep things simple. You can expect to find them in 3 predictable shapes:
- Oval/ Diamond - Expect to find the foam range in a typical oval or diamond shape with the BUBS logo in big letters, very hard to mistake for any other sweet in your bag. Our favourite has to be the Raspberry & Blueberry Ovals
- Skulls - Typically these are fizzy and sour and you’ll everything from the retro cola to cool passion pineapple
- Octopus/Ghost - Liquorice, salty, Lingonberry.. Just some of the unusual flavours which are packaged up in this even more unusual shape
What Are They Made Of?
1. Zero animal products - BUBS are completely gelatine-free(or any animal products for that matter)! In most non-vegan sweets you’ll find gelatine, either the pork or beef variety making them unsuitable for vegans sweet lovers. However our clever friends in Sweden have swapped this ingredient out in favour of cornstarch (literally the part inside corn that keeps it all together).
2. Gluten-free - A large number of BUBS products are gluten free, how great! Note, it is important to check all ingredients before consuming any product.
3. Dairy-free - BUBS are are perfect for those who are lactose intolerant or choose to avoid dairy for ethical reasons.
